Two names dominate networked AV: Dante and NDI. They are often mentioned together but solve different problems. Here is how to choose.
Dante: the audio standard
Dante moves many channels of low-latency, high-quality audio over one network cable. It is the go-to for conferencing, auditoriums and multi-room IP audio, and integrates tightly with DSP.
NDI: video over the network
NDI carries high-quality, low-latency video over standard Ethernet — popular for live production, streaming and lecture capture, letting any camera feed appear anywhere on the network.
They work together
Most real projects use both: NDI for video routing, Dante for audio, over one well-designed network — see AV over IP.
Choosing for your project
Audio-heavy job (PA, conferencing, halls)? Lead with Dante. Video routing and production? Lead with NDI. Either way the network must be built for it.
